DR. Robin bartlett

’78 BSN, ’87 MSN

2024 DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI

Dr. Robin Bartlett is a 1978 BSN and 1987 MSN graduate of The University of North Carolina Greensboro School of Nursing. In addition to obtaining two degrees from UNCG School of Nursing, she also taught at the School from 1992 to 2019 and served in roles ranging from Clinical Assistant Professor to Professor and PhD Program Director. Upon departure from the University, she was named Professor Emerita. Dr. Bartlett obtained her PhD in nursing from The University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 2003. Since 2019 Dr. Bartlett has been a professor at The University of Alabama, first serving as Lifespan Researcher, and since 2020 serving in the role of Associate Dean for Research. Building on her experiences as a registered nurse working in psychiatric settings with adolescents, her program of research focused on promoting positive health outcomes among adolescents. More recently her scholarship efforts have been directed toward bringing those from underrepresented groups to the profession of nursing and the nurse scientist role. She has received funding for her scholarship from a variety of sources including the National Institutes for Health and the Alabama Commission on Higher Education. Dr. Bartlett has published and presented her work widely and served in Board of Directors positions for Sigma Theta Tau International, for Sigma’s Building Corporation and for the Southern Nursing Research Society. One of Dr. Bartlett’s passions is mentoring the next generations of scholars. She has chaired or served as a committee member on at least thirty doctoral dissertations. She has mentored developing scientists in the US and a variety of other countries. With two of her mentees, she published a book chapter that features a model of mentoring termed the “Ripple Effect Mentorship Model.” Dr. Bartlett was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing in 2023.
