The School of Nursing offers an undergraduate program culminating in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. Our BSN program provides three distinct pathways: the traditional prelicensure track, the RN to BSN track for registered nurses, and the Veterans Access Program (VAP). Graduates are equipped to function both independently and collaboratively within the healthcare system, delivering evidence-based nursing care to individuals, families, groups, and communities.
BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING (BSN) PROGRAM GOALS
The baccalaureate program prepares graduates for the following:
- Practice professional nursing based on inquiry, caring, and standards of practice.
- Function independently and collaboratively within the healthcare system to deliver evidenced based nursing care to individuals, families, groups, and communities.
- Provide high quality and safe nursing care as a member of an inter-professional team.

Interested in Changing Your Major to Nursing?
To pursue the nursing major, students must meet specific eligibility requirements. Therefore, incoming students cannot initially select nursing as their major, nor can students change their major to nursing independently. All students interested in the nursing major will be designated as Pre-Health within the School of Health and Human Sciences and tracked as “Health Professions Exploration” students. Each student will be assigned to an advisor within either the School of Nursing or the School of Health and Human Sciences. The nursing major can only be initiated by the School of Nursing Office of Student Success once students are formally admitted to the major through a competitive application process.

REMAINING ASSIGNED TO THE SCHOOL OF NURSING OFFICE OF STUDENT SUCCESS
Students pursuing the nursing major must earn and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher to remain assigned to the School of Nursing Office of Student Success. If the GPA falls below 3.0, the student’s major will be changed to Pre-Health or another major selected by the student.
ADVICE TO EVERYONE INTERESTED IN THE NURSING MAJOR
Please note that each year, the School of Nursing receives many applications for the upper division nursing major. Admission is highly competitive, and students must demonstrate strong academic performance, a growth mindset, and stellar social and emotional skills to have a high likelihood of acceptance. Meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee admission to the upper division nursing major. Students who find it challenging to meet the minimum criteria are strongly encouraged to consult with their academic advisor to discuss strategies for success.
