UNCG Triad Education Center RN to BSN Program

UNCG School of Nursing is happy to announce their RN to BSN Program at the Triad Education Center, near the Piedmont Triad Airport, for 2011-2012. This program allows Registered Nurses to complete the required nursing courses and many general education courses in two years.

Nursing courses will be offered one day a week. Students will combine independent learning activities, web-based activities, and traditional instructional strategies to complete many assignments on a more flexible timeframe. In other words, you will not have to drive to the classroom each week, because some assignments can be completed at home.

The tentative schedule for the program is as follows (Specific dates will be communicated to students in the program in early 2011):

August 2011: Two days on the UNCG campus for orientation to the program and the campus.

Classes for Fall will be on Thursdays, beginning August 2011, at the Triad Education Center.

Fall semester 2011:

NUR 370 - Concepts of Professional Nursing (3 semester hours), 6:00 pm - 8:50 pm on Thursdays
NUR 371 - Nursing Health Assessment (3 s.h.), 1:00 pm - 4:50 pm on Thursdays.
STA 108 - Statistics OR General education course*

Spring semester 2012:

NUR 470 - Community Health Nursing Concepts and Care (3 s.h.)
NUR 472 - Nursing Leadership and Mgmt (3 s.h.)
STA 108 - Statistics OR General education course*

Summer 2012:

Nursing elective*
General education course*

Fall semester 2012:

NUR 471 - Nursing Care of the Older Adult (3 s.h.)
NUR 473 - Nursing Research (3 s.h.)
General education course*

Spring semester 2013:

NUR 474 - Nursing Practicum (4 s.h.)
Nursing elective (3 s.h.)
General Education course*

* General education courses will be offered on main campus or online. Graduates of community college nursing programs typically need courses in Humanities/Fine Arts, History, and Statistics. Students who have transfer credit for these requirements do not have to repeat them. Students are not required to take a general education course concurrently with the nursing courses, but it is an option for those interested in doing so. Summer session is optional.

STA-108 Statistics is a pre/co-requisite to NUR-473. We recommend that it be completed before the Nursing Research course if possible.

Other information:

  • Parking is free and nearby.
  • This brochure lists the schedule of required nursing classes. Most RNs also need to complete some general education courses. Each student's situation is unique, and an individual evaluation of transfer credits will be completed for each student. All UNCG requirements for the BSN degree must be completed.
  • Prospective students may contact the School of Nursing for individual advising prior to the start of the nursing courses in fall 2011, and if interested, can begin completing the general education courses prior to August 2011.

Is this the same program you offer on the UNCG campus?

Yes. However, students who begin the program at Triad Education Center are expected to complete the nursing courses in the sequence shown, that is, 2 nursing courses a semester.

How much will this cost?

The cost for two 3-semester hour courses offered at the Triad Education Center during 2010-2011 is approximately $720. Rates are subject to change for the 2011-2012 academic year. There is also a differential cost for students who already hold a baccalaureate degree, or who are out-of-state residents. Cost of books is extra. The cost of courses offered on the UNCG campus is different than the cost of courses at the Triad Education Center.

Do I have to buy a computer?

No. You will need regular access to a computer. However, you may use any computer that meets the necessary specifications (see below). This could be your own, at a local library, or even a friend's computer.

What are the computer requirements?

Specific requirements will be available in early 2011, prior to the start of the program in August 2011.

I don't know much about computers. Can I still take these courses?

Yes. The orientation prior to the start of the program will provide students with the skills needed to begin the program.
