Our purpose - The Undergraduate Advising Center is here to provide support and guidance for pre-nursing students, admitted BSN students and students in our RN to BSN program. The Undergraduate Advising Center is open from 8 am - 5 pm. Appointments outside this time can be arranged for special situations. We encourage you to make an appointment for advising, as the center is not always staffed for walk-in sessions. If an advisor is not available, students also can consult Ms. Dana Donaldson in Room 103 for general programmatic and advising questions.
Undergraduate Advising Center staff provide initial advising consultation to new and perspective students. Once students have progressed beyond their first semester (or their first year for freshmen) each is assigned an individual faculty advisor. The Undergraduate Advising Center coordinates faculty advisors and also provides supplemental support to students who have been assigned a faculty advisor. Advising Center staff and faculty advisors greatly care about our students, their success at UNCG and their connection to the University. In the Advising Center we use a developmental but direct approach. This means that, while we may not always tell students what they want to hear, we are always honest and supportive. Your advisor is much like a personal trainer in that an advisor won't do the work for you but can help you develop a realistic plan to reach your goals.
Our staff includes one full-time professional advisor (the Director) and two half-time faculty advisors.

Additional information: Academic advising is an expected and valued activity for all faculty in the School of Nursing. For this reason we strive to keep student to advisor ratios lower than many other academic units. Your academic advisor is an important resource for helping you navigate all aspects of university life. A high percentage of faculty members in the School of Nursing have been certified as "Master Advisors" through the University's Master Advisor Program.
If you are dropping off student records, medical records, other requirements for students in clinical courses, or other documents for the Advising Center, feel free to deposit this information in the locked box located on the wall opposite the door to the Advising Center that faces classroom # 130. The box is checked every day and is secure. You are welcome to leave a note for any of the three advisors in the box. We also welcome your comments and suggestions by dropping a note in the drop box.
