Admission Requirements
- Completed application; forms available online at www.uncg.edu/grs/. The admission deadline is February 15th each year.
- Acceptable Graduate Record Exam score within last 5 years.
- Three professional references.
- Official transcripts from each college or university attended.
- Current unrestricted registered nurse licensure or validated credentials by CGFNS for international applicants.
- Satisfactory TOEFL scores for international applicants
- A 300-word statement of research goals in doctoral program related to promotion of optimal health for ethnic minorities, women, children, or older adults.
- Master's degree in nursing from an accredited program.
- A 3.0 or greater GPA on a 4.0 scale on previous graduate work.
- An interview with Graduate Nursing Faculty for selected applicants.
- Health insurance is required for all students enrolling in six or more credits each semester.
Prior to enrollment in classes, doctoral nursing students will be required to complete the UNCG health history form and Parts A and B of the immunization schedule (with the exception of the meningococcal vaccine) and forward these documents to the Student Health Service.
Program Requirements
- Minimum of 57 credits for PhD program in Nursing
- A minor is optional.
- Grades in all courses must be a B or better to be applied to program.
- Residence requirement of two consecutive semesters of at least six credits per semester.
- Oral and preliminary exams required after threefourths of coursework.
- Documentation of RN licensure, CPR certification, current liability insurance coverage as specified by the School of Nursing, and a criminal background check prior to enrollment in practicum or research experiences in educational or healthcare agencies.
- Seven year time limit for completion of doctoral nursing program
